Afton Williamson and Eric Winter have been cast to co-star opposite Nathan Fillion in The Rookie, ABC’s new straight-to-series crime dramedy.
According to Deadline, Williamson will play Talia Bishop, a newly-promoted training officer whose first assignment is Fillion’s 40-year-old rookie. Winter will play Tim Bradford, an overbearing training officer.
The Rookie reunites Fillion with former Castle executive producer/showrunner Alexi Hawley, who will write and executive produce the show. Mark Gordon and Nicholas Pepper, Fillion, Michelle Chapman, and Jon Steinberg are also executive producers. Liz Friedlander is directing and executive producing the first episode.
Inspired by a true story, The Rookie follows John Nolan (Fillion), the oldest rookie in the LAPD. At an age when most are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his small-town life and moved to L.A. to pursue his dream of being a cop. Now, surrounded by rookies twenty years his junior, Nolan must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a “young” cop, determined to make his second shot at life count.
Williamson previously starred in The Breaks at VH1. She also had roles in The Night Of, Banshee, Homeland and Nashville.
Winter recently appeared in The Good Doctor. He previously had roles in Rosewood, The Mentalist, and Witches of East End.
